Dental Implants
An implant is an artificial tooth root that is placed into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth, bridge or even dentures.
Dental implants may be an option for people who have lost a tooth or teeth due to periodontal disease, an injury, or some other reason. Implants are very successful, easy to maintain and predictable long-term. And because they are decay proof, investing in dental implants now will ultimately save patients time and money in the future.
Here at PortSide Dental, Dr. Grace has the ability to actually place the implant for some patients so there is no need to see the Oral Surgeon. Placement of implants here at our office is done on a case by case basis. Most patients would still need to have the implant placed by the Oral Surgeon and then return to our office for the final abutment (screw) and crown (artificial tooth) restorative aspect.
Why get an implant?
• Closest to natural tooth
• Strong, long lasting
• Help prevent bone loss
• Help preserve adjacent teeth
• Allow patients to bite and to chew naturally
• Help patients speak naturally and feel like themselves
• Help patients feel more attractive
What is an implant made of
They are made of titanium, which is lightweight, strong and bio-compatible, which means that it is not rejected by the body. Titanium and titanium alloys are the most widely used metals in both dental and other bone implants, such as orthopedic joint replacements. Dental implants have the highest success rate of any implanted surgical device. Titanium’s special property of fusing to bone is the biological basis of dental implant success.
Am I a candidate for an implant
Generally speaking, if you have missing teeth you are likely a candidate for dental implants. It’s important that you are in good health as there are some conditions and diseases that can affect whether dental implants are right for you.
